Take Action Against Hunger

Girl Scouts of Gateway Council and Winn Dixie stores are joining forces to help you reduce childhood hunger in your community.

For the first time Girl Scout Troops and Groups can apply for a mini grant and partner with their local Winn Dixie store to Take Action Against Hunger. Mini grants range from approximately $250.00 to $1,000.00 per project.  The total grant pool for these projects is $20,000.

Step 1:
Troops and Groups are encouraged to look at the Journey and Badges of their level that deal with healthy living and healthy eating, then brainstorm ideas for a Take Action project that could help reduce childhood hunger in your community.

Step 2:
Once you have planned your project idea and proposed budget, meet with your local Winn Dixie store manager to see how they might partner with you on your project to Take Action Against Hunger. Download and print your own project business cards and letterhead for your proposals

Step 3:
When you’re ready to create your project and apply for a mini grant, complete the application. Make sure to complete the number of t-shirts, patches or totes your group will need, we want to be a recognizable force for change around our communities!

Step 4:
A volunteer grant committee will read and approve mini grant applications, and help you navigate the process. Once approved, you will receive an approval letter notifying you to begin your project. You will also receive a check in the mail for your mini-grant amount (minus the cost of your selected promotional materials). Make sure to carefully track spending and save all receipts to be turned in with your project final report.

Step 5:
Take Action in your community, have fun, grow as a team, and fight hunger! Along the way a member of the grant committee will be checking in to see how your project is progressing.

Step 6:
Once your project is complete, submit your final report (within 30 days). Make sure to send photos of your troop in action to!

Step 7:
Celebrate your success and hard work!
