Visual Astronomy Interest Group

Explore the night sky and broaden your knowledge about the heavens at the North Fork Leadership Center.

Many of you have expressed an interest in the moon, so we're giving you what you asked for: alternate moon and dark sky sessions!

Moon Girls & Lunatics

October, December, February, and April will focus on the moon. The new levels are Moon Girls (beginning moon), and Lunatics (advanced moon). In addition to basic telescope use, Moon Girls will learn to find their way around the moon and understand what they see. Lunatics will work on advanced observing projects, moon phases, and eclipses. Maybe you will be lucky enough to watch the dark edge of the moon eclipse a star!

Star Girls & Sirius

Register Now: Star Girls; Sirius

In addition to basic telescope use, Star Girls will learn to use charts and maps, recognize the constellations, and understand constellation mythology. Sirius students will have a special project: will it be nebula building, finding Messier in the sky, astrophotography, or more telescope fun?
