Smile Camp is planned and staffed by rising 9th-12th grade Girl Scouts. Counselors receive hands-on, intensive training and are paired with a camper for the entire week.
Counselors live and work at North Fork during the week of Smile Camp. These Girl Scouts plan activities, schedules and meals for the week, and they facilitate a positive, engaging experience for all campers.
Many former counselors credit their Smile Camp experience with sparking their interest in working with children with special needs, and some go on to become teachers or physical therapists, continuing to work with children like the ones who attend Smile Camp.
Girl Scouts must apply to be a Smile Camp counselor, submit an information form and agree to uphold the Girl Scout Promise and Law in their role as a counselor.
Counselors must pay a $100 fee to cover meals and other items for the week and submit at least one reference. Apply by Sunday, May 19; counselor positions are filled on a first come, first served basis.
