At Girl Scouts, we know that when given the opportunity, girls can change the world, and we have the reach and experience to help girls everywhere lead. Girl Scouts of Gateway Council will make every effort to ensure that no girl is denied participation in our Girl Scout Leadership Program due to a lack of funds. Gateway Council offers limited Scouterships (financial assistance) for girls who qualify due to financial hardship.
Scouterships are available to first-time Girl Scouts and provide financial assistance for:
$25 Membership Registration with GSUSA and/or Girl Scout Starter Kit, which includes:
- Daisy - Tunic, pins, troop number patches, Gateway Council patch set, flag patch, insignia tab
- Brownie, Cadette, Junior, Senior and Ambassador - Sash, pins, troop number patches, Gateway Council patch, flag patch, insignia tab
*Items to be picked up within 60 days of receipt of Scoutership approval.
- Food stamps documentation
As part of the Girl Leadership Experience, girls participate in the largest girl run business in the United States, the annual cookie program and Fall product program. These programs teach girls financial literacy and budgeting. As a recipient of a Scoutership, participation in the Girl Scout Cookie and Fall Product programs will secure another year of Scouting for your girl. The proceeds raised will ensure another fun-filled year by covering the cost of next year's membership, troop event participation, fees and other supplies needed.
As a caregiver to the recipient of a Scoutership we encourage you to pay it forward by donating your time. We ask that you volunteer at a council-sponsored event during the Girl Scout year. (Adult membership is not required to volunteer for single day events.) There are various volunteer opportunities that fit a variety of interests. Whether you have one hour or many to offer, Girl Scouts has a volunteer opportunity for you.
Financial Scouterships can only be issued to a caregiver. While troop leaders can certainly assist you with the completion of forms, Gateway Council only accepts requests that have been signed and/or completed by a caregiver.
